Online Student Video Competition Encourages High School Students to Share Their Views on Education

"Your School, Your Documentary," a new high school student video contest on Facebook, gives students a chance to tell the world how technology impacts education at their school.

The high school online video competition kicks off a new digital platform, Project New School, for students to participate in discussions about the future of education. Additionally, "Your School, Your Documentary" provides a creative outlet for students to express their opinions and observations about their high school to Facebook audiences worldwide.

The "Your School, Your Documentary" online student video competition invites high school students to create a mini-documentary, between 30 seconds and three minutes in length, and takes place entirely on Facebook. Students post their short high school videos to the social networking site, where other Facebook users will view and vote for their favorites.

Students are directed to create a film about their high school, their education, their story - something they're passionate about - the more creative, the better. Need more information?

MacBook Pro laptops will be awarded to video competition winners in two categories: Judge's Choice and Viewers' Choice. Nine runners-ups will receive Flip UltraHD video cameras. As an added bonus, an iPod shuffle will go to the first 10 students who submit a film, and a free T-shirt emblazoned with the word "FILMMAKER" will go to the first 400 students who submit a film.

On November 16, 2009, films will be posted on Facebook for viewing and the Judge's Choice Award nominees will be named. Viewers' Choice Award voting also begins at this time. Voting will take place on Facebook between Nov. 16 and Dec. 11. The winning student videos will be announced on the Project New School Facebook page in January.
